Aquamarine

One of my favourite pictures. Taken in Xlendi, Gozo on 28th August 2004, it depicts a beautiful marine spot yet undiscovered by Maltese and tourists alike.

A jellyfish floating at the surface, some two metres away from where I stood to take the previous picture. Best picture I managed to take since it was constantly bobbing up and down and chasing small fish. Too bad the tentacles don't show.

Same jellyfish but with tentacles showing..

The picture which was the biggest hit with my friends on that Gozitan day. This pretty one took me quite a while to get on screen.. but it was well worth the wait!

Hi, I was wondering do you touch these? I thought that they (especially the bigger ones) are poisonous,,,

Hi.. No I did not touch them at all. Took the close-ups using the Optical zoom of my camera. I think the yellow one is poisonous, as you said. Not sure about this one. However, both the ones I took were floating away from the shore so at least no harm could have come from these two.

all jellyfish are poisonous, its the amount they contain and inject that makes them dangerous or not to humans.

The last one you posted if i am not mistaken is the common one. It's bit causes only some swelling and burning feeling where the bit occured.

Never saw the second one in my life but as far as I know the only real dangerous jellyfish for humans is the Portugese man-of-war since its very big therefore injecting a large amount of poison compared to the smaller types. As regards to this last species though its hardly ever seen in the Maltese sea
